More or less at the beginning of our era, the Chinese published the first pharmacopoeia in history - a list of known medicinal substances with a description of the action, dosage and methods of obtaining. It is in this book, known as pen-ts'ao ching, that hemp seeds found prominence. According to Chinese doctors, cannabis seeds prepared in various ways were a remedy for ailments such as constipation, rheumatic pains or women's problems, and the famous Chinese surgeon Hua T'o gave patients wine laced with cannabis before the surgery to numb them. It all happened a thousand years before Mieszko I was baptized. It was then that in India, cannabis was used for all kinds of pain - from headaches, through rheumatism, to toothache; for controlling convulsions, as a sedative, for skin problems and even for parasites. THC and CBD

Until the 1960s, scientists did not know exactly what was responsible for the psychoactive effects of marijuana. Cannabidiol (CBD for short) was discovered in the 1940s, but tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) was only isolated in 1964 by Raphael Mechoulam. These two substances - CBD and THC - are the most important active ingredients in cannabis.
CBD has promising healing properties, and THC, in addition to its medicinal potential, also has a psychoactive effect. It is thanks to THC that smoking a joint or eating a marijuana cookie makes you feel better and you laugh until you drop the worst jokes.
However, it just so happens that you can grow cannabis with different THC and CBD content. In Poland, the cultivation of hemp is allowed, provided that it is a species with a THC content of less than 0.2%. High CBD content is desirable because - let us remind you - CBD does not have a euphoric effect, but it exerts a significant influence on the human cannabinoid system discovered in the 1980s. The role of this system is still not fully understood, but it is known that cannabinoid receptors are located in virtually all tissues - from the brain to the spleen, and that they can have a huge impact on regulating the functioning of many, if not all, systems.

In January 2017, the US National Academy of Sciences issued a comprehensive report on the state of knowledge about cannabis and its effects on health. The report was the result of an analysis of available research, after evaluating the methodology, so it can be trusted. They grouped the results according to the quality of the evidence: For sure. And that's roughly what scientists have managed to establish. However, this does not mean that cannabis does not help in other conditions - perhaps it is so, but there is not enough strong evidence for it yet. Because medicine needs irrefutable evidence. Which doesn't mean you do too.
